recently, the first annual food truck mash up took place. i actually happened to be a big fan of food trucks before the event, so this was a no brainer for me. there are not many around my area, but with almost 20 in one area, i would have so many choices to choose from.
i only tried five out of the 18 (i'm pretty sure?) trucks. here is what i ordered and my opinion on the dishes.
1. bacon on wheels
bacon is one of my favorite foods, so i had to try this. i ordered their signature "bacon on a stick" and "chocolate covered bacon". the bacon on a stick was a very thick slice of bacon on a stick. pretty self explanatory, it's just what it sounds. the flavor was really good of the bacon, but just a bit too fatty. i know that most of bacon is fat, but it was around 90% total fat. it does not taste good eating complete fat. it's disgusting. the meat parts of the bacon (around 10%) was great. it had amazing flavor. for the chocolate covered bacon, it was thinly sliced, like the bacon you eat for breakfast. it was covered in milk chocolate and topped with coarse salt. i thought that the chocolate overpowered the bacon flavor. although, it had a pretty good balance of salty and sweet, between the sweet chocolate and salty bacon and salt. overall, it was good, but there were other items on the menu that i wanted to try. would give it another chance.

2. thai elephant
thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, so of course this was a must. i ordered tofu pad thai (a noodle dish). it took a really long time to cook and then messed up our order, giving us chicken instead of tofu. at least the pad thai was really good, because i would have been really upset. the only thing (taste wise) was that it was a bit on the oily side. other than that, delicious. i hear that they also serve soups, but they didn't offer that this time.

3. el lechon de negron
this was my favorite. i ordered their signature "rice and pork", which was delicious! it had nice flavor, in both the rice and the pork. i would definitely go back again!
4. the cow and the curd
this food truck serves cheese curds, which i have never tried before, so i didn't know what to expect. there was only one thing to order on the menu, not including the optional sauces on the side (extra 50 cents), so i was expecting a shorter wait. instead, it was longer. i was waiting on a almost 30 minute line to get my food, which i assumed would be shorter because they are only making one dish. anyways, the cheese curds were quite good. they were lighter than the normal mozzarella stick, and were coated in what seemed liked a cornmeal coating. overall not bad except for the wait.
5. kona ice
just your regular ice place. except, the ice is a bit coarser so it's just a bit crunchy. also, on the side of the truck, you can add syrup (or you can ask them to do it). that may be something fun for your kids. they have a pretty wide range of fruit flavor choices. also, you can get half n half, so you don't have to pick just one, but two! nothing special, but still refreshing.
overall, my experience at the food truck mash up was amazing! i enjoyed all the food and can't wait to come back next year. if you're planning on coming next year, here's a tip: come about a half hour before it starts. you will get a good parking spot and wait on shorter lines. that's what i did and i avoided most of the ridiculous 35-50 minute lines, just to ORDER your food (then you need to wait again to GET your food). anyways, i highly suggest you come next year because its a lot of fun and good food!
